Curriculum

Here at St John the Evangelist Catholic Academy directors, local academy committee members, the principal and all staff have a clear and ambitious vision for providing high quality, inclusive education.

Our curriculum ensures that:

Intent –  the curriculum is ambitious and designed to ensure that all learners including the most disadvantaged are able to access a broad and balanced curriculum which builds on the knowledge and skills from previous year groups and cross curricular, to enable all pupils to integrate new knowledge into larger concepts.

Implementation – Leaders place a large emphasis on teacher’s subject knowledge and ensures quality continuing professional development (CPD), enabling teachers to create an environment that allows all pupils to focus on learning. All staff respond and adapt their teaching as necessary, without unnecessarily elaborate or differentiated approaches. Teaching is designed to help learners remember in the long term the content they have been taught and to integrate new knowledge into larger concepts.

Impact – Pupils develop detailed knowledge and skills across the curriculum to enable them to achieve well. This ensures pupils are ready for the next stage of their education.

Making our curriculum inclusive for all:

Your child is a unique person. All teachers plan to meet the child’s individual needs through detailed planning and differentiated activities, in a rich environment with adult support. This is in all lessons in our school.

All pupils will receive equal access to a full curriculum that will allow them to build their knowledge and skills, develop cultural capital and achieve their full potential.

At St John the Evangelist Catholic Academy, every member of the school community is regarded as being of equal worth and importance. Inclusion recognises differences; meeting the needs of individuals and taking positive action, so that everyone has equal access to the educational opportunities offered by the school this includes regular monitoring of individual progress and achievement. Each child is given the support they need to help them succeed across the curriculum and achieve their potential.
